Did you know I’m a singer?
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a specialization in vocal performance (and a minor in piano).
Over the years, I’ve sung professionally on a couple of albums, given vocal or piano lessons, been a member of various church ensembles and praise teams, etc.
Kind of makes sense I’d marry a professional audio engineer.
Music has always held a special place and expression in my life. There is nothing so moving to my spirit as a beautiful motif or a lyric which cuts right to the heart of of the matter and verbalizes the thoughts or emotions roiling within me I may not know how to express.
So, I suppose it’s no surprise when singing in our church’s choir this morning (while following the words projected up to the screen) during rehearsal before service time, I was struck by one particular song we were preparing for this morning’s worship time.
In fact, my eyes started to tear up and I had to mouth the words of the song for a moment. My voice caught in my throat as the significance of the lyrics penetrated my soul.
The truth. So perfect in the simplicity of its message.
“Lost are saved, find their way, at the sound of your great name. All condemned feel no shame, at the sound of your great name. Every fear has no place, at the sound of your great name. The enemy, he has to leave, at the sound of your great name.”
How I love you.
