Child voices will fill the early evening with cries of "trick-or-treat"! Adults dressed in costume will attend parties or find some kind of entertainment with friends for the evening. Ghost Hunters will seek to find evidence of the paranormal. Futures will be sought through tarot or palm readings.
And many people will pull out a Ouija Board.
The Ouija Board (also known as a spirit or talking board) can be store-bought as a game from Hasbro or handcrafted from a flat board. The alphabet and numbers 0-9 are marked on the board, along with the words "Hello", "Goodbye", "Yes", and "No". A planchette or pointer device with castors is used to move about the board.
An Ouija Board is a device used to communicate with spirits. The idea is that while a person asks questions with their fingers lightly touching the planchette, a spirit can move the device, creating answers by moving the planchette to the numbers and letters.
Many people think of an Ouija or spirit board as a harmless device. An innoncent child's game with a spooky twist.
The truth is the Ouija Board is an occult tool. It is a mediumistic/seance device which can be a conduit for spirit communication. Using the Ouija Board actively invites spirit beings into a person's life. And once the door is opened, it can very difficult to shut.
Stories abound of people who have played with an Ouija or Spirit Board who (over time) have come to be terrorized by the unseen forces. Many say the answers they receive begin innocently enough but in the end turn threatening. Those who use the Ouija/Spirit Board find their lives being filled or disrupted by fear.
Some individuals report their homes being invaded by harassing spirits because they've used an Ouija Board. I've heard accounts by many people who claim their houses are haunted. A number of them admitted to playing with an Ouija Board (or knowing that someone in their family did) at some point in the past.
People don't realize the damage this occult device can wreak in someones life until it's too late.
Ouija/Spirit Boards are not innocent. They are certainly not a child's game.
As Christians, we are clearly warned in the Bible to stay away from anything which involves communicating with spirits.
"For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you. But you must be blameless before the Lord your God." Deuteronomy 18:10-13 (NLT)
This admonition is certainly applied to an Ouija/Spirit Board.
The good news is that Jesus has overcome the enemy. When we give our lives to Christ we rest in His authority. We can overcome the works of the enemy through the spiritual weapons God has given us…the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit (which is His word).
Have you ever used an Ouija Board? Do you know (or suspect) someone in your family who has? Don't worry! You can let go of any fear associated with past use or any tie to your family:
"Holy Lord,
Thank you that as Your child I can come to you and say I'm sorry for things I've done in the past. I know You have and will forgive me.
I renounce (formerly declare) that I'm abandoning all association or practice (past or present) with the Ouija/Spirit Board, spirit communication, seances, talking to mediums or being one myself. Forgive me for those former things. I will have nothing more to do with them. And break any ties (strongholds–past or present) which may have been created through the use of an Ouija/Spirit Board.
Surround me with Your love. Fill me with your Holy presence. Set around me, and my family, a hedge of protection against the enemy. Draw my thoughts to You. Teach me to love and know Your Word–the Bible–which You have given. Help me to mature in my faith. I love you Lord.
In Jesus name, Amen."

I will attest to this truth that this tool is not a child's game! Utilizing it many times myself in my practice as a Witch…and also in ghost huntings…these tools invite spirits in that humans have no right to be tinkering with, nor have any idea how to handle them.
I learned the hard way…with a whole mess of consequences. But thankfully as a Christian, I have understood for many years now the protection we not only have in Christ alone…but also in the armor He gives to us to don daily to fight the battle He knew we would have to fight as we live here for the times we do. What an amazing Father He is to give His children the very tool to protect their hearts, minds and spirits from the wiles of the evil one!
My recent post Update Time
I'm so glad you are talking about this. I have always been too afraid to touch one, I would never allow it in my home and it bothers me to see one in another's home. I'm really enjoying your site and your personal story and experience.
My recent post Baby Steps To Joy
Thank you! I'm glad your enjoying the blog and finding it helpful. Yes. The Ouija Board is indeed spiritually dangerous. So many people think it's a simple game or harmless. There are many people who've used one with no noticeable activity or ill effect but many more have experienced something quite different. It's better not to knock on that door.
I used a Ouija board once at a friend's house in junior high, but I don't remember anything specific about that encounter. I learned shortly thereafter about the doors they can open, and I've never touched one again. I'm SUPER sensitive to stuff about ghosts and the paranormal. If I watch those shows about ghost hunting, that stuff shows up. So I avoid it at all costs.

A wise decision. You're right. Even if nothing happens at the time, the door is opened.
