Do spirit guides protect you?
The answer to that question is NO. How do I know this? Well, when I was a practicing witch and medium (and ghost hunter) I had FIVE spirit guides. One of those spirit beings claimed to be the Archangel Michael.
This particular spirit being claimed to have been protecting me since childhood. He was the one who would “guard” me when dealing with “negative inhuman spirits” during ghost hunts.
Not long after meeting “Michael” I was on an investigation at a historic site which involved an old iron bridge. We had crossed the bridge when I “sensed” an evil entity following us across the bridge. I stood there telling this spirit being it couldn’t leave it’s side of the bridge.
Throughout the encounter, I felt what might be described as a wall of energy in front of me. I believed it was “Michael”, proving his promise to protect me. When the danger seemed to have past, the leader of our team called me over. He had a picture on the screen of his digital camera with me standing there on the end of the bridge. In front of me was what is called an “orb” (essentially a sphere of condensed light caught on film or digital pictures believed to be a “spirit being”.)
“That’s my spirit guide, the Archangel Michael”, I declared with confidence.
Here’s the reality:
The Archangel Michael was not one of my spirit guides. The beings I allowed into my life were demons. “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.” 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 (ESV).
These beings were not benevolent. They distracted me from the voice of the Holy Spirit who was calling me to repentance. These beings encouraged me to believe in my own power and strength. They encouraged me to look within (and to them) for information about the future. They encouraged me to seek their wisdom, their protection instead of God. They lied. Theyharassed (even though I believed it was other spirits who were pulling my hair, pushing me from behind, or knocking on my windows as I tried to meditate).
And they were all subject to the authority of JESUS CHRIST when I renounced them in HIS name. In that moment, I was freed from their influence, deception, and oppression for which I give thanks to God every day.
Some may ask—what if it was Michael? Don’t you believe in guardian angels?
First—the Archangel has scripture describing him (Daniel 10:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:16;Revelation 12:7). Being my “go to guy” as a ghost hunting bodyguard does not fit the Chief Angel or his duties. Did the demon’s lie succeed in making me feel important, believing I had the Archangel’s special protection? You bet it did.
Second—the Bible tells us God sends His angels according to HIS purpose to help protect (Daniel 6:20-23; 2 Kings 6:13-17), reveal information (Acts 7:52-53; Luke 1:11-20), guide (Matthew 1:20-21; Acts 8:26), provide for (Genesis 21:17-20; 1 Kings 19:5-7), and minister to Christians in general (Hebrews 1:14). So yes, I do believe in angels as described in scripture.
Third—spirit guides are not God’s holy servants or what scripture calls His “ministering spirits”. They are demons, rebellious fallen angels who followed the enemy (Lucifer, now known as Satan or the Devil) against his (and their) Creator long ago (Isaiah 14:12-17 (NLT)). Seeking the assistance or protection of spirit guides (or the angels they imitate for that matter) does not honor God but draws us away from Him.
Friends, here is the long and short of it:
“Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.” Deuteronomy 13:4 (NLT)
