Movie Preview ~ Field of Vision

field of vision Movie Preview ~ Field of VisionFamily Movie Night  returns this Saturday, June 11th, 8PM EST on NBC with FIELD OF VISION.

A Synopsis from the official website:

Through mysterious footage captured on an old malfunctioning video camera, Sinclair High School's star quarterback, Tyler McFarland, learns that some of his teammates have been bullying Cory Walker, a troubled new transfer student. Aware that sharing this information with the coach might get his friends kicked off the team and ultimately cost the school the state championship, Tyler must choose what's more important: winning or doing what's right.

As these events unfold, the camera also reveals more surprising footage to Tyler's kid sister Lucy. She learns that Cory has a secret past, unknown even to him. Now Lucy must convince her mom (Faith Ford, Murphy Brown) and family that the camera's revealing insight is not a product of her imagination as she enlists their help to find the answers Cory so desperately needs. It's a compelling and intriguing story that shows both the challenges and rewards of doing the right thing even when it's tough to do.

My Review:

Bullying is not a new issue. As someone who was shy, book-smart, and from a broken home I identified with Cory Walker. I remember hiding and not going on the playground fearing harassment.. I know what it's like to have people whisper behind your back or say hurtful things because you are perceived as a little "different". Movies depicting the problem of bullying and offering workable solutions can be valuable tools for learning.

I enjoyed watching Field of Vision. I'll be honest. It's a typical "feel good" popcorn movie. While the story and acting were solid I kept waiting for some other dramatic shoe to drop but it never did. I also don't understand inserting the "magick camera" into the plot. I'm sure it was meant to add a fantasy element for child viewers but if anything I think it took away from the deeper lessons available to young viewers about the problem of bullying.

Field of Vision does a fair job in presenting the problem of bullying in school. Bullies are often insecure. They pick on people who appear weak or won't fight back to build their self worth. Field of Vision offers the opportunity to experience what the proper response to bullying should be. Field of Vision is entertaining for children and adults alike. The real bonus will be the discussion which could be opened between kids and adults on how to deal with bullies.

Family Movie Night Preview

Make sure you gather the family this Saturday, April 16th, at 8 PM EST on FOX for the World Premiere of Truth Be Told, starring Candance Cameron Bure, David James Elliot, and Ronny Cox!

Walmart and P&G have brought back a great tradition…FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT. A chance to sit down with your kids and watch a family friendly movie that will have you laughing one minute and tearing up the next. Truth Be Told is the third Family Movie Night film I've had the pleasure to preview. The great thing about these films: interesting/relevant stories, great acting. I have enjoyed every movie Family Movie Night has aired so far this year and TRUTH BE TOLD is no exception.

Here's the scoop (from the official website):

When leading marriage counselor Annie Morgan (Candace Cameron Bure) is offered an opportunity to host a relationship talk show, she jumps at the chance. But fearful that being single might ruin her big break, she conspires with an old college friend and recent widower, Mark Crane (David James Elliott), to pose as a married couple with kids. Their story starts to unravel when Annie and Mark join her eccentric soon-to-be boss (Ronny Cox) for a weekend at his ranch in New Mexico. Comical misunderstandings mark the event as Annie struggles to keep up the ruse, finding herself emotionally invested and conflicted by her own conscience. Will she confess the truth about her marital status and her feelings for Mark… and will the truth set them free?

This film was really enjoyable (and dare I say cute!). I laughed, I cried, I even felt the girlie "awwww" factor a few times (yes…this is a chick flick. Get over it!). The pacing of the story was excellent, scenery beautiful, and the characters were people you wanted to like….even when you cringed because of the way they progressed deeper into lies which could blow up in their faces at any moment. I think the story makes an excellent point that truth is important in all relationships (parent/child, husband/wife, employer/employee). It could also launch a great conversation of "do the ends justify the means?"

We all know there is never anything good to watch on Saturday night 8-10PM EST which is why Family Movie Night is stepping up and offering quality programming you can enjoy with your  whole family.

So "COWBOY UP" and tune in to Truth Be Told.

It'll be fun!

Movie Preview ~ A Change of Plans w/Giveaway!

If you need something to do this Saturday, January 8th, then gather your family and some snack food, sit down at 8PM EST to tune into your local FOX channel and watch the new Family Movie Night World Premiere Presentation of A Change of Plans!

Here's a story synopsis from the website:

Up to this point, Sally Danville's life has played out just as she hoped it would. A beautiful and free-spirited musician, she and her fighter-pilot husband, Jason, live life on the go, free of domestic responsibilities. But with a single phone call from Child & Family Services case worker, Dorothy (Phylicia Rashad, The Cosby Show), she learns that things don't always go according to plan. Sally (Brooke White, American Idol) is met with the news that her best friend from college has died in a tragic accident on a Peace Corps mission and has named Sally the legal guardian of her four kids – 3 of them adopted from third-world countries. Now Sally and Jason (Joe Flanigan, Stargate Atlantis) must quickly learn to parent this instant family and help the kids deal with the culture clash of life in America. The story is both humorous and heartwarming, revealing how fulfilling life can be when you look beyond your own plans and invest in the lives of others.

Technical difficulties prevented me from being able to preview A Change of Plans. However, knowing the quality of the previous films and the talented acting ability of Joe Flannigan and Phylicia Rashad,  I have no doubt that this film will be well worth the watching and a heartwarming family story to share with your kids. I know I'll be tuning in for sure!

Movie Review: A Walk in My Shoes

walkinmyshoes Movie Review: A Walk in My ShoesIf you have nothing to do next Friday, December 3, 2010, 8PM (EST)…or even if you do…make sure you watch the NBC Family Movie Night world premiere of A Walk in My Shoes. A wonderful movie which will tug at your heart strings and reaffirm how important it is not to judge people by what's on the surface, but take the time to really "see" what's going on beneath. The value of truly knowing someone and walking through life without blinders on.

I had the opportunity to watch an advance version of A Walk in My Shoes, directed by John Kent Harrison, starring Nancy Travis, and supported by an incredibly talented cast.

I am very impressed by the quality of this movie. The camera work has a contemporary style which I enjoyed, particularly in the first few minutes. The timing is excellent and doesn't feel rushed but get's to the main plot points without a lot of unnecessary exposition.

A Walk in My Shoes offers a story which is relevant and interesting (with a touch of whimsy which will make you smile), highlighting the difficult economic times we live in. It also addresses the reality that so many people are rushing about day by day and missing moments or opportunities to make a personal connection.  A Walk in My Shoes had me laughing, crying, and cheering. It's definitely a movie you can watch and enjoy with your family, and can be used as a great conversation starter, especially in light of our call as Christians to "love our neighbor as ourselves."

Here's a little sneak peak

A WALK IN MY SHOES:

Ever judge someone just by looking at them? We've all made snap judgments about people. But what if we really got to know them? Would our opinions change? And what if we actually became them; how would the shoes fit? Stressed-out high school teacher Trish Fahey can't understand her students' lack of effort and why their parents don't seem to care. This is especially true of Justin, a basketball star who is underperforming in her class. All of this changes when Trish wrecks her car and wakes to find herself living in the shoes of Justin's mom, a woman she has personally judged and criticized. With the help of a mysterious stranger, Trish discovers the real reason behind her struggles, teaching her a whole new meaning of compassion. No one is left unchanged.

Do yourself (and your family) a favor on December 3, 2010 NBC 8PM (EST)

Get everyone together, pop some corn and watch A Walk in My Shoes!

You'll be glad you did.
