A Bit of Encouragement on a Gray Day

A Bit of Encouragement on a Gray Day

Today is Monday.

I don't know what it's like where you live but it's been foggy, rainy/sleety, and gray for most of the day.

Ah. Winter in Michigan.

Truth be told, I wasn't sure if I had anything to say or write. No pithy or (hopefully?) insightful commentary on life or interesting stories to share.

As I struggled for —something—which would could be expressed in a coherent manner I glanced at a lovely little book my mother-in-law gifted me with recently.

It's called Promises of Hope for Women. It's a collection of short devotionals, scriptures, and inspirational quotes which remind the reader of what's truly important.

We can always turn to God.

I'm not reading the book every day but using it from time to time as a bit of encouragement when needed. So I thought I'd share today's main verse with you. The focus is on courage. It's taken from the verse in 1 Chronicles when David is speaking to his son Solomon regarding the building of God's temple. Words which we can apply and take comfort in today as well:

“…Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He won’t leave you or forsake you…" 1 Chronicles 28:20 HCSB

You know, there are a lot of things God call us to do as we follow Him through our walk with Jesus Christ. And those things (whatever they may be) will require courage.

The courage to stand by your faith and convictions when others don't understand or disagree.

The courage to take a step into uncharted territories of service which move beyond comfort zones.

The courage to believe God's promises are good and true and trustworthy, even when His time-table differs vastly from our own.

We can take heart, be strong and courageous without fear or discouragement, because we know God is with us. No matter how long or arduous the journey. How dark or gray the days can be. Our God is faithful and we can remain steadfast in that knowledge and peace.

For as long as it takes.
