A Narrow Path Down The Middle

  A lot of people throw the words "legalism" and "legalistic" around these days. Tell me if you've heard any of these phrases: "I don't want to be legalistic but…" "You know as Christians we shouldn't be legalistic and all but…" "He/she is too legalistic for me!" So what exactly does it mean to be [...]

Jesus = Everything

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in [...]

The Imperfect Quest for Perfection

As I was working on my book today (a bigger, more comprehensive version of Escaping the Cauldron) I was thinking about how I got myself into the legalistic trap of trying to be "perfect" and ultimately led to my crisis of faith ten years ago. Why did I become consumed with the idea of being [...]

SOAP: 1 Corinthians 10:31-33

  Scripture: "So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Don’t give offense to Jews or Gentiles or the church of God. I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others [...]

Looking In from the Outside

I was sitting on my couch, tip tapping away on my laptop (surprise, surprise) when I heard a kind of squeaky noise, as if someone were wiping a mirror with a window cleaning cloth. I looked up and there was Zeppelin, my big outdoor cat. He's quite the character. The only male feline in a [...]

Consumer Christianity

So my good friend Sue ( You know her right? Praise and Coffee. I might have mentioned her once or twice) posted a question on her Face Book  wondering if anyone had seen a story from South Texas about  a church that is giving away a ton-o-stuff for their Easter services. When I say "ton-o-stuff' I'm [...]

Everything in Tidy Boxes

   My husband and I were talking the other day (as we so often do) and it came to my mind again how easy it is for us as Christians to compartmentalize. Honestly, it's really no surprise. I'd say to compartmentalize is as American as apple pie and baseball so why should the church or Christians [...]

Transforming Power

Last night during the live webcast (which can be viewed here if you missed it) I had the privilege of answering a number of interesting questions about my former experiences in the occult and the book I've written and it got me thinking about power. Personal power. Spiritual Power. Supernatural power. We all know the [...]

Jesus Freak…Continued

A continuation of my thoughts from the previous blog: Jesus Freak. **************************************************************************************** Next on the list to living a godly life would be self control. I struggle with this one so much myself…mainly because I try to handle it on my own rather than asking God for help and guidance. Self control comes in many [...]

Repentance. What does it mean?

When sin is brought to our attention and we recognize it for what it is….sin…to repent is to actively change our way of thinking about sin, subsequently changing our behavior. Our understanding of that sin is changed and we actively stop doing it.
