Yeah…I Got Nuthin

Speaks for itself, doesn't it?

I have to admit I've been going through a rather long "dry" season as of late, where some times I feel I have absolutely nothing to say. Which can be rather tricky when you have a daily blog designed to share your thoughts and reflections about life in your little corner of the world.  In fact, it can be a daunting task to find something to expound upon when life becomes routine and there is nothing special happening to connect with the goings on of life around me. I'm just walking down what seems to be an endless road with a destination that seems way to far to reach only taking one slow step at a time.

Isn't that what life is though?

A few moments of something special followed by incredibly long stretches of the every day. Going to work. Making dinner. Hanging with the spouse. Caring for the kids. Hopefully making time to pray or read the Bible and most definitely too much time on the computer or in front of the television. As much as we'd like to go from adventure to adventure or one happy moment to the next (for most people) life truly is a long road with pretty much the "same ole, same ole" for company.

Yet these long stretches of "nuthin much" are what teach us to persevere when we aren't sure what may be ahead or to work hard for a goal at the end. It's on this long journey we can learn from past mistakes as we have opportunities to make a similar choice or do something different. Yes, there might be a chance to take a side road or follow the leader to an easier "short cut" for a little excitement (or at the very least a change of scenery!) yet all it ends up doing is extending the length of the trip to the final destination.

Perhaps the real challenge is staying the course we are on? Even if we are a little unsure we are going the correct way or have to wait for directions as we come upon an obstacle rather than have advance warning.

So if your like me and are walking a long road with "absolutely nothing" for the next however many miles, hang in there. Keep your eyes focused up off the road your plodding along and raise them into the distance. Do you see those mountains there? Right now that is your goal and perhaps once you get to the top of that you'll find the long walk has yielded some glorious, mature fruit along the way….before it's time to follow the road heading down into the next valley.

Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:4 (NIV)

Hey…did you jump in my head? Thanks for reminding me to keep watch ahead on the mountain…even though it's 22 miles way far in front of me…sometimes I take those shortcuts I come across and then I find the road not as straight…it winds here and there and even sometimes…I find myself going in circles…so I guess that's why it seems to take forever to get "there".
