What Is Big Fish Ministries All About?

Recently I've been asked to define Big Fish Ministries.
What is it and what do we do?
Big Fish Ministries really began as an idea God placed in my husband's head and heart, July 2002, after he rededicated his life to the Lord. We were still separated at the time (I was obviously still involved in the occult) and Thom was coming out of the night club scene where he'd been a successful DJ.
(Do you like the "big fish"? This was BFM's logo in 2002)
He began doing a lot of research on the internet about growing closer to God through Bible study and prayer. He discovered a website called 24-7 Prayer, a movement out of the United Kingdom, and was immediately intrigued with the notion of continual prayer. God put it on Thom's heart to sponsor a week of non-stop prayer in the church he'd started attending after his re-dedication to Jesus and Big Fish Ministries was officially born.
Truthfully, BFM nearly ended multiple times before it could even start as Thom and I struggled with our marriage (not to mention my spiritual issues) from 2002-2007. However, God is good and always has a plan! Once we got ourselves straightened out spiritually, doctrinally, and relationally, the Holy Spirit has made sure to renew the desire to serve Him through full-time ministry. The vision lives in both of us!
It's been a slow process these last three years, getting started and waiting on the Lord. Yet in that time God has been allowing us to do "the stuff" here and there, define the goals of Big Fish Ministries, and put faith into practice.
So let me introduce you to Big Fish Ministries today. We are based out of the Grand Rapids, MI area, but as Thom says we'll go anywhere there is a need if the resources are available.
- Kristine ReMixed
- Biblical Counseling for Women (regardless of ability to pay)
- Speaking on topics relevant to Christian life (such as prayer, spiritual warfare, marriage, the occult, etc ) for church, youth, faith-based, and women's events
- Prayer Rooms (offering dedicated space for people to express their prayers in a variety of ways including art, music, writing, etc)
- Worship and Art Night (this was something we did for a month with a church we attended but would like to bring the concept to other churches.
- Worship in the Park (an idea we are pursuing )
- Social Justice (working with other churches/ministries to give blankets to homeless, meet needs of local communities as they are discovered, mentoring "at-risk" youth, assist relief efforts for disaster areas impacted by floods,hurricanes, etc.
ANNOUNCEMENT: we will be introducing a new avenue of ministry next month and we're VERY excited about the possibilities! Here's a hint…the focus is UNITY. More info soon!
We do have some needs and prayer concerns.
Big Fish Ministries needs $1200 in order to become an official 501 C3 organization, and is a goal Thom and I simply cannot meet on our own. Thom currently works part-time for two other ministries and I'm promoting my book (which has been slow. Not to mention I don't actually make any money when the book sells on Amazon…it's simply there to be available to as many people as possible ) and offer counseling services to women.
Monthly Support so that Thom and I can devote all our time to Big Fish Ministries, sharing the gospel, teaching the Bible, and have the resources to provide free counseling, mentoring, offer assistance to people, churches, organizations ( food, blankets, water, necessities, etc), offer prayer rooms, travel for teaching or speaking engagements free of charge, etc.
Prayer for protection and that Christians will come along side us, partner with us in ministry, and support what God is doing through Big Fish Ministries.
So there you have it.
Big Fish Ministries is here to serve God and minister to people, most especially those who might be what many consider "on the fringe" of society or the church. We believe in relationships over programs and are passionate for the ways of Jesus.
Loving God and loving people….that's what we do.

Okay, I'm sure that it is on your site somewhere but just to get it out here for anyone else that might be a nubie… Where is Big Fish Ministry based out of? Can't wait for the meeting.. I've been snooping around trying to figure out all of the details
. I did some research on the occult when I was in college and I am excited to have the chance to hear from someone that is shooting straight! I got such conflicting information!
