The Wit and Wisdom of C.S. Lewis

Since the time my mother first read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe to me as a child, I have been a fan of C. S. Lewis. I have always appreciated how he could take the most ordinary things and make them extraordinary. How he could discuss seemingly difficult theological questions and communicate meaning in every day language. So many of C.S. Lewis's stories and books about Christianity are classics and should be read (in my humble opinion) if for nothing more but to experience the genius of the man and his turn of phrase.

What got me on going on about Lewis today? Well, my husband and I were at the Family Christian Store this morning, and as we were browsing the music section I came across the new CD recording of The Screwtape Letters, produced by Focus on the Family. If you are not terribly familiar with C.S. Lewis or The Screwtape Letters, basically it is a series of letters in which human beings and the nature of temptation is explored…from the vantage point of the tempter. Screwtape is an upper level demon who is giving advice to his lower level demon nephew on how to properly handle his "patient" (ie: human) and prevent him from fully knowing or understanding his relationship with God. It's a clever twist and interesting look at human nature, sin, grace, salvation, etc.

What is wonderful about this particular recording of C..S. Lewis' classic set of "letters" is it's been fully dramatized. Andy Sirkus (Gollum of The Lord of the Rings) is the voice of Screwtape and is fantastic. My family and I have been listening to the CD's for most of the day and it's brilliant!  The music, the acting…everything is awesome. Focus on the Family has created top quality radio dramas for years (such as Adventures in Odyssey) but I think this is the best they've done to date.

So if your a fan of C.S.Lewis and The Screwtape Letters this new radio drama is a must have!
