Simple Choices

Simple choices.
We make them every day with nary a thought to the outcome or consequences of our individual actions…but history (and the Bible) would remind us that we should think before we act, and certainly seek God in our decisions. I’m sure many of you have watched or know the film "It’s A Wonderful Life" starring Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey.
In the film, George learns how the simple choices he made through the course of his life affected and changed the lives of people surrounding his own…but this was fiction. Today this truth was dramatically illustrated for me in the story of how God changed one man’s heart and affected the lives of many others.
Wendy Griffiths is an anchor for CBN News. Today she posted a special report for the 700 Club which had very personal overtones for her own life. Hearkening from the great state of West Virginia, Wendy is the great great great grand niece of William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield…one of the major players and leader of the Hatfield clan in the historic feud between the Hatfield’s and the McCoy’s.
Traveling back to her home state, Wendy interviewed Jimmy Wolferd…singer/songwriter, and great grand nephew to Randolph McCoy.
It was fascinating to hear the history of this sad but legendary fight between these two families in the 1870′s-80′s, but what truly struck me was how at the age of 72, William "Devil Anse" Hatfield accepted Jesus as his Savior and was baptized at the urging of his friend, preacher Dyke Garrett. Many believe it was this action which ended the long standing feud (a family war resulting in the deaths of 15 people over the years) and changed lives of many in the Hatfield clan, and the previously self destructive course of the family.
One could make the case that Wendy Griffiths is a living testament to this claim.

This is one example of how God can intervene in any circumstance (good or bad) through the simple choices we make every day. Changing the heart of one person, forging a new direction in not only the one making that simple choice, but affecting the lives of many people…directly or indirectly…for generations.
Psalm 103: 17-18 (NLT)
But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him.
His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!
