Is Paranormal Activity Increasing?

Someone made a comment the other day about what seems to be an apparent increase in paranormal activity. I don't personally believe there is more paranormal activity, so much as there is greater interest and awareness than a few years ago.
Popular media certainly plays a role by creating programs which capitalize on the current interest in ghosts and ghost hunting, mysticism, angels, witchcraft, spiritualism or communicating with the dead, vampires, etc.
Additionally, people want an experience. In this age of enlightenment and science, people are hungry for the spiritual…or more specifically…the supernatural. The question is are these people pursuing what will satisfy their longing? Even in the church, many Christians are basing their personal faith walk on experiences alone rather than the solid grounding of the word of God…the Bible.
Basically, what it comes down to is this….if you purposefully seek out paranormal or supernatural experiences, your'e more likely to experience one. However, in the Bible we are told to avoid this kind of activity. We are discouraged from seeking out mediums and psychics, sorcerers and those who conjure the dead. These activities are rooted in demonic deception and while they can seem beneficial for a time, in the long run they all lead to spiritual destruction.
Jesus told us that if we seek God first, we will find Him.
"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:9 (NIV)
The problem is that people are seeking answers apart from God…or lying to themselves by trying to meld their interest in the paranormal/supernatural with the things of God, as I did. People, Christians and non-Christians alike…are looking for their own version of "truth" and answers in all the wrong places.
In the world of the paranormal, there are theories about ghosts and hauntings but that's all they truly are…theories based on experience or man's wisdeom with no consideration for what it says in the scriptures.
Ghost hunting, spiritualism…all of this increased interest in the paranormal is simply whistling in the dark. People trying to explain or define something they truly d not understand because…"Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NLT)
As Christians, however, we honestly have no need to worry about such things.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”- John 14:1-3 (NIV)
