Auras

I was recently asked if the supernatural ability to see "auras" is a gift God has given to Christians. First, let's define what the ability to see an aura actually is.
According to Got Questions.com, "Auras are believed to be subtle energy fields or fields of light emanating from human beings, as well as all living things, surrounding them like a bubble. It is claimed that the human aura indicates the spiritual, physical, and emotional state of a person via the color, depth, and strength of the aura."
Basically the ability to see an aura is considered to be a paranormal ability, used within the realm of the occult, Wicca, witchcraft, New Age spirituality, and some natural healing methods.
There is nothing in the Bible that supports the notion of being able to see auras. Some supporters of auras may cite the examples of Moses face "shining with light" from Exodus 34 or the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain of Matthew 17. However, both of these passages reference the glory of God, rather than an individual energy field.
When I was a witch and medium I would spend time daily in meditation. One of the exercises I practiced was viewing auras…the energy supposedly surrounding people and objects. I would also practice viewing auras when I was out in nature. Observing the energy of trees or plants and connecting with it. This activity was an integral part of occult practice and philosophy designed to open the "third eye".
Auras and the ability to see them land squarely in the realm of activities covered under the umbrella of the occult…all of which are to be avoided. Therefore I believe its safe to say pursuing the ability to see auras is definitely not something a Christian should do.
Some people will perhaps argue that the ability to see argue is similar to spiritual discernment…a gift of God to the church listed in the Bible. However, the gift of discernment is the ability to know if a teaching is of God or is false. Additionally, the gift of discernment is the ability to determine if a spirit is of God or is demonic. The ability to see auras has nothing to do with spiritual discernment as described in the Bible.
Rather than concerning ourselves with an ability to see "energy", we should concentrate on knowing Jesus…the Light of the World.
"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
