Prayer and Meditation

Every day I try to spend time in prayer and meditation…some days more than others. Prayer helps me explore my feelings and emotions, deal with situations I'm facing, and talk to God about "life".
Prayer, meditating on God's word…it's healing. There was a reason Christ admonished us not to worry but to pray. Doing so releases your faith and trust in God. We are also admonished to pray for others…even those who've hurt or "spitefully used you." This is not always easy to do but when we can we are the ones released.
Anger, hurt, fear…initially these may be honest reactions to our circumstances. Eventually, however, they can become chains (known as resentment, depression, rage, worry) we forge ourselves if we go from healthy expression of valid emotions to sinful reactions. Creating steel bands which bind us to those who have wronged us, or the circumstances we face.
Prayers of forgiveness, healing, release…not only free those we pray for, but more importantly…ourselves. The bindings are loosened and eventually drop away in time. What a relief when a burden is lifted. Because that is what it is to carry such strong emotions long past their due..a burden.
Prayer and meditation can relieve us of this burden, help us move forward into healthier ideas, emotions, and ultimately open our eyes to new perspectives and prospects.
Prayer and meditation strengthen our faith. As we are reminded of God's promises and see them come to fruition in our lives…even if the wait is long.
As Scripture reminds us:
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1Thessalonians 5:16-18
