Obsessive Compulsive Thinker

I am an obsessive, compulsive thinker.

I obsess over "issues".  I contemplate and mull over an issue thinking about it.  Rolling it over and over again in my brain.  Often examining a perceived problem from a zillion angles.  

I honestly don't know why I do it.  I try to let issues or problems go. Forget about it.  Accept things as they are, and live by the rule of "it is what it is"…but more times than not, my brain simply won't let me. 
 
It's highly frustrating and too be honest, tiring.  Waring on my emotions and spirit.  The littlest thing can often set my mind in non stop motion. One difficult thing is when the obsessive thinking dwells on something unhappy or negative.   When I do try to focus my thoughts on the good, this can seem to intensify the obessive thinking process.

Honestly it can be like trying to stop an avalanche with a toothpick.

I think that's why our thoughts are so important to our spiritual life.  We do well to follow the advice of the Apostle Paul in this issue of clear and right thinking "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.". Philipians 4:8

Perhaps this is why Jesus admonished us in Matthew 6:33 "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need."
When we keep our thoughts focused on the things of God we become better equipped to deal with the difficulties life throws our way.  When obsessive compulsive thinking…or whatever happens to be your hot button…becomes an issue we can pull out the Sword of the Spirit…the word of God imprinted on our minds and hearts…and cut through the confusion.

So whatever may come…even if like me you some times find yourself in a bout of Obsessive Compulsive Thinking…we have a way to overcome.  As with any temptation or difficulty God always provides a "way of escape".   All we need to do is look toward our Father and ask.
