Frying Pan Meet Fire

You know, generally, I love serving the Lord.  God is gracious and steadfast in faithfulness.  He’s got good plans for each one of us and when we are obedient to His will we grow in maturity.  Honestly, it’s wonderful to love God and love people….most of the time.

The problem is when you’ve got your forward momentum, everything around you inexplicably explodes.  Appliances stop working. Someone rear ends your car.  You lose all the information you’ve been working on for a big presentation.  Basically, life gets very difficult.  You begin relating to Job.  Wondering if you should study his book to get a handle on suffering.

Now, some times…as I learned while reading Learning to Soar…God is actually "stirring your nest".  He wants to take you out of your comfort zone.  Maybe send you in a direction you never suspected, and the difficult time is a training ground to prepare you for something bigger in the future.  In those moments we look to God and say "okay, I don’t like this but I trust you!" and jump out of the nest

However, there are those other times when you’ve been moving forward in maturity.   God is opening doors for some special thing He wants you to do. Your doing the stuff, living your faith, and making some noise.  Once again events begin to unfold which test your faith, patience, and depending on the intensity, some times even your overall trust in God.  You’ve gone from the frying pan straight into the fire and baby it’s hot!

It’s in those times we are reminded as Christians we are in the midst of a spiritual battle.  The enemy does every thing possible to discourage or dissuade us from being obedient to God by messing with our lives.  See, you stopped playing it safe with your faith.  You made a decision to be obedient to whatever God wants from you.  You clothed the naked, fed the hungry, told the story of Christ to someone who needed to hear it. Basically, you called attention to your position on the battlefield.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just go about our Christian life without the drama?  Avoid being noticed by hostile forces?  Do whatever thing God’s called us to do without a major meltdown?   I certainly get a little "battle weary" now and again.  Taking fire when I poke my head out.  Foolishly believing the coast is clear…and then an arrow zings past.  As my younger daughter would say…it’s annoying

The reality is when you step out, live your faith, walk in obedience…the enemy is inevitably going to get rowdy.  There is good news though.  God is there to pull our proverbial pans out of the fire.  God is always faithful when we put our hope in His promises.  Always.

"Trust me in your times of trouble and I will rescue you, and you will give Me glory."  Psalm 50:15 (NLT)

Trust God.  Remain obedient to His will and call on your life.   Even if the only prayer you are capable of uttering is "COME ON!  SERIOUSLY?", be vigilant.  Focus on Him. Saturate yourself in His word…it’s your freaking double edged sword for heaven’s sake, use it!  The enemy will be driven back.   Hold firm to your faith, your shield against the onslaught.  Remember…your God is always faithful.  He’s coming to your rescue!
